Cupping & Gua Sha

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient form of Traditional Chinese Medicine that involves placing specially designed cups on the skin to create suction along selected meridians. This technique helps stimulate circulation, relieve tension, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Cupping is commonly used to:

  • Relieve muscle and joint pain or stiffness
  • Promote relaxation and reduce stress
  • Support the immune system
  • Improve blood circulation

The marks left after treatment are a normal response and indicate increased blood flow to the area. In some cases, moving cupping techniques are used, which can feel similar to a deep-tissue massage.

At Whole World Massage, we offer:

  • Vacuum (plastic) cupping – ideal for relaxation, muscle tension, and general wellness
  • Fire cupping – used for more targeted therapeutic purposes

Fire cupping may be beneficial for:

  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Digestive issues
  • Lower back pain
  • Menstrual discomfort

We recommend discussing your concerns with our practitioners before treatment, as a combination of therapies may provide the best results.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is a Traditional Chinese Medicine technique that involves gently scraping the skin to promote circulation and release tension. This process creates light redness or bruising, which helps improve blood flow and remove stagnation.

Gua Sha may help with:

  • Cold and flu symptoms
  • Neck, shoulder, and back stiffness
  • Muscle tension and pain

This therapy is particularly effective for conditions caused by cold exposure or muscle tightness.

Please note that Gua Sha may not be suitable for everyone. We encourage you to consult with our practitioners to determine the most appropriate treatment for your needs.
